WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

"What a Wonderful World" is one of the most beautiful and optimistic songs ever written. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968.
It was written specifically to be sang by Armstrong, and tried to be an antidote for the racially and politically charged climate in the USA.

The song details the singer's delight in the simple enjoyment of everyday life. The song also has a hopeful tone with regard to the future, with reference to babies being born into the world and having much to look forward to. The song gradually reached a high level of popularity. It was re-released in America shortly after Armstrong's death in 1971 and became a top ten hit.

PANCAKES - RECIPE

ARE YOU A GOOD COOK? TRY THIS!
A GOOD IDEA FOR A NICE FAMILY BREAKFAST ON SUNDAY MORNING. YOUR FAMILY WILL ENJOY IT!

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons melted butter

Preparation:

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture. Blend in melted butter. Cook on a hot, greased pan, using about 1/4 cup of butter for each pancake. Cook until brown on one side and around edge; turn and brown the other side.
Serve these pancakes with butter and syrup.

OKTOBERFEST, la fiesta de la cerveza más famosa del mundo.

La Oktoberfest o “fiesta de octubre” se celebra este año del 20 de septiembre al 5 de octubre en Munich, la capital de Baviera (Alemania).
Cada año asisten más de 7 millones de personas a este evento. Según las estadísticas, se consumen varios millones de litros de cerveza, unos 600.000 pollos fritos y otro montón de salchichas. Una vez más, este año la Oktoberfest se celebrará en el tradicional Theresienwiese o Prado de Teresa, cerca de la Estación Central de Munich (Hauptbahnhof).
En el terreno del Theresienwiese se encuentran catorce Bierzelte (tiendas de cerveza) enormes con unos 100.000 asientos entre todas. Uno se sienta en bancos plegables y estrechos de madera para consumir la cerveza y comerse una Brezel (una especie de rosquilla salada).

Hay orquestas en todas las tiendas, que tocan los éxitos de la temporada a todo volumen, y la gente canta acompañando la música.

Hay cierta clase de versos o refranes estereotipados que se repiten con frecuencia fija, levantándose todos y saltando encima de las mesas: «Oans, zwoa, drei, g’suffa!» (que es bávaro y quiere decir : "¡Uno, dos, tres, adentro!".

Pero la Oktoberfest no sólo se define por la cerveza. Antes de que la primera gota de cerveza salga de los barriles, la fiesta se inicia con la Entrada de los Hospederos: se trata de un desfile largo de carros cargados de barriles de cerveza, adornados de flores, y tirados por caballos. En los carros están los dueños de las tiendas de cerveza, saludando al público y tirándoles bombones a los niños.
Hay otros acontecimientos públicos a los que vale la pena asistir, como los numerosos conciertos de música bávara, muy apreciados por los amantes de la música popular.
Por supuesto no se deben olvidar los feriantes. Cada año atraen al público con unas novedades espectaculares. Y la gente hace cola para poder subir a la versión más moderna del tobogán, o pasar algo de miedo en el túnel de la bruja más sofisticado.
Pero también hay feriantes de fama histórica: en el Flohzirkus (exhibición de pulgas amaestradas) por ejemplo sólo permiten unas diez personas a la vez. En un tablero pequeño hay pulgas que casi no se ven, pero que tiran carros de tamaños muy superiores a ellas mismas. El domador cuenta a los espectadores que a la hora de comer se las mete en el brazo para alimentarlas, y como prueba enseña las picaduras.

La cerveza de la Oktoberfest se sirve en jarras de vidrio (llamadas en bávaro Maß) muy grandes, de una capacidad de un litro, exclusivamente. A ningún asistente se le ocurre decir algo como «Sólo quiero la mitad»! Haría el ridículo, y además no le harían caso.

La cerveza llega a las tiendas en barriles enormes de madera, que se llaman Hirschen (ciervos). Un buen camarero encargado del barril nunca cierra el grifo. Va sustituyendo las jarras rápidamente en cuanto se llenan. Las camareras (siempre son mujeres) se las llevan a docenas a las mesas, donde las venden al pasar.

¿QUIERES SABER CÓMO EMPEZÓ TODO?

El día 12 de octubre de 1810 el príncipe Luis, más tarde proclamado rey Luis I, se casó con la princesa Teresa de Sajonia. Invitaron a la boda a toda la población de Munich. La fiesta se organizó en un prado en las afueras de la ciudad. Ese lugar se llamaba Theresienwiese (Prado de Teresa) en honor de la novia. La fiesta de la boda terminó con una carrera de caballos. Entonces, la familia real decidió que aquella carrera debía repetirse cada año, iniciando así la tradición de las Oktoberfeste (fiestas de octubre). Desde aquellos tiempos la Oktoberfest se ha convertido en la fiesta popular más grande del mundo, recibiendo visitas desde todo el planeta.

Le toit de l’Europe (El techo de Europa)

Cet été j’ai voyagé en Suisse et en Allemagne. J’ai découvert des endroits incréibles dans ces deux pays.
Ce que j’aimé le plus a été la région Jungfrau en Suisse, pays ou il y a trois langues officiels : allemand, français et italien.
Au fond on peut voir le Jungfrau, la montagne qui donne nom à la région et qui est la plus haute de l’Europe.
Ici, on peut faire des promenades à la montagne completement entouré par la nature en été, pratiquer le ski en hiver et les trois langues pendant tout l’année.

LA TORRE DE BABEL

La Torre de Babel (del verbo hebreo balál, "confundir") es una construcción mítica mencionada en la Biblia. Según se narra en el capítulo 11 del Génesis, los hombres pretendían, con la construcción de esta torre, alcanzar el Cielo. Yaveh, para evitar el éxito de la empresa (que se oponía a su propósito de que la humanidad se extendiera por toda la superficie de la Tierra y se multiplicara en ella) hizo que los constructores comenzasen a hablar diferentes lenguas, por lo que pronto reinó la confusión y se dispersaron. Así se detuvo la construcción de la Torre y la ciudad.
Si creyéramos en este mito, podríamos decir que la lengua que se hablaba en la prehistoria, antes de la construcción de la Torre, es lo que ha recibido el nombre de “indoeuropeo”.
Aunque no quedan testimonios de esta lengua, sabemos que idiomas tan distintos como el inglés, el alemán, el noruego, el lituano, el francés, el ruso, el griego o el polaco vienen de ella.
Por todo esto, no es de extrañar que algunas palabras de primera necesidad como números y palabras para designar vínculos familiares sean muy parecidas en lenguas distintas. Veamos algunos ejemplos:
Padre: pater en latín, father en inglés, Vater en alemán, etc.

Hermano: frater en latín, brother en inglés, Bruder en alemán, etc. (en castellano se conservan palabras como fraternal)

Uno: unus en latín, one en inglés, eins en alemán, etc.

Dos: duo en latín, two en inglés, zwei en alemán, etc.

Tres: tres en latín, three en inglés, drei en alemán, etc.

Me (pronombre personal de primera persona): me en latín, me en inglés, mich/mir en alemán, etc.

Tú: tu en latín, thou en inglés (antiguo), du en alemán, etc.
